Public Policy Committee

This producer-led, ad-hock committee meets on a regular basis with public policy makers and leaders to discuss important issues impacting the dairy industry and rural communities. They work proactively on issues that could impact land, water, community and animals.

These meetings offer an outstanding opportunity to hear creative solutions for environmental and food-safety challenges. You’ll hear from others in industries outside of dairying who face similar challenges, and you’ll learn new ways of dealing with these issues.

Regular meetings, held a minimum of quarterly, involve the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection; the Department of Natural Resources; and the university and extension system. The group also works directly with other policy makers and agencies such as the Department of Transportation and the Department of Commerce.

In short, PDPW puts you – fellow dairy producers – “at the table,” talking and working directly with decision makers in the state about issues that impact our dairies.

Industry Action Committee

PDPW facilitates and leads the dairy industry in developing and communicating a united dairy voice on important industry-wide issues.

The Industry Action Committee works as a single point of contact representing dairy producers, processors and allied industry for the common good of our industry. By leading a united effort with industry partners, government agencies, extension resources, the university system and others, the committee strengthens dairy infrastructure and creates dairy industry success stories.

Career Path and Leadership Development Committee

PDPW believes youth are the future of our industry and invests in them. The Career Path and Leadership Development Committee manages our Enhanced Internship Program, Mentor Program and Youth Leadership Derby. These youth-related programs are made possible in part by donations to the Professional Dairy Producers Foundation. Learn more about the Foundation here.

Youth Leadership Derby. An annual two-day, fun-filled lock-in, the Derby offers hands-on labs, valuable, interactive workshops and unique tours. Students can explore all aspects of the dairy industry. It provides a positive learning environment for kids to meet and learn from each other.

Mentor Program. The program pairs college students with dairy producer mentors. Each student spends at least one day at the mentor’s dairy learning the business. The program enables students to explore production agriculture as a career option and exposes them to differing operations and management styles. To recognize the students and mentors, PDPW sponsors each pair at the Annual Business Conference and honors them at a special Mentor Program Breakfast.

Enhanced Internship Program. Better than the average internship, this program enables students to work on-farm, learn about modern dairy production systems, and receive career planning that includes pathways to production agriculture. After the internship, we sponsor both the student and the producer at our Annual Business Conference. Please contact PDPW at 800-947-7379 or email (mail@pdpw.org) if you are interested in hosting an intern or hoping to find an on-farm summer internship.

Producer Meetings Committee

The Producer Meetings Committee depends on dairy producer and industry feedback to determine which educational conferences and seminars we develop from year to year. Topics include, but are not limited to: calf care, milk quality, human resources, financial management, communications, feeding, facilities, nutrient management and biosecurity.

Annual Business Conference Committee

The Annual Business Conference, the industry’s premier educational event, brings together the most forward-thinking dairy professionals in the world. Committee members direct the overall content of the conference, making it truly a great program for dairy producers and other industry leaders.

It’s the place to pick up on the latest trends and research, and to talk shop with fellow professionals.

Dairy producers appreciate this outstanding opportunity to learn from each other. The Hall of Ideas is the tradeshow that coincides with the Annual Business Conference. Exhibitors relish the chance to present products and services, and to interact with producers. Just as the name implies, The Hall of Ideas is where companies showcase cutting edge products and innovative services.
