PDPW Food & Policy Summit Highlights Industry-Shaping Trends, Next Week
 
DAIRY NEWS – Dairy farmers are losing tools – like rBST, tail docking and wondering what’s next.  On Oct. 25 and 26, 2016 Professional Dairy Producers® – PDPW will provide a venue for farmers and allied industry to engage, learn and ask direct questions of our industry partners. Lean into the discussion, for one day or both, at the Sheraton Hotel, at 706 John Nolen Dr., Madison, Wis.
 
The Summit will bring together a cross section of dairy farmers, veterinarians, processors, regulators, industry CEOs, and food system executives to foster critical dialogue regarding the dairy meat and milk industry. Participants will gain insight to the voices driving dairy policy on day one and close on day two more clearly understanding and being a part of the solution. Come to the table to tackle issues like market access, consumer perceptions and understanding other factors that shape policy on issues like bioengineered technologies, GMOs, rBST, and tail docking.
 
Day one registration begins on Tues., Oct. 25 at 12:30 p.m., commences at 1:00 p.m., and concludes following the 6:30 p.m. closing session and dinner program. Day two registration opens on Wed., Oct. 26 at 8:00 a.m., with the Summit reconvening at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 4:00 p.m.
 
The Opening Keynote, speaker Ben Brancel, Wisconsin Secretary of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, will highlight the importance of trust and transparency in the food system and the regulations and restrictions dairy farmers endure. 
 
During general session one, Food Panel, you will hear directly from food system executives. This food panel will include:
  • Jennifer Walker, DVM, PhD, Director, Dairy Stewardship of Dean Foods;
  • Deb Arcoleo, Director, Product Transparency of The Hershey Company;
  • Kim Stackhouse, Director of Sustainability for JBS USA;
  • Goedhart Westers, Vice President of Business Development with Grassland Dairy Products, Inc.
 
This dynamic line-up will shed light on the market-driving factors behind dairy meat and milk production.
 
The second general session, Consumer Panel: Are their stomachs keeping them awake at night?, will highlight our consumer panel’s personal perspectives of the dairy industry, where they glean their knowledge of the industry, and what factors influence their purchasing decisions.
 
The final general session will bring in HSUS to allow attendees to hear directly their perspective on the dairy industry, their expectations and goals for food-animal production and our industry. 
 
After hearing from the voices driving policy on day one, Food & Policy Summit attendees will engage with the solutions on day two as you discuss antibiotic use, National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) Policy, Process and On-Farm Practices and water regulations in Wisconsin and beyond. Participants can also attend breakout sessions to obtain updates on programs from Dairy Management, Inc., NMPF, the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and the Wisconsin Veterinarian Medical Association’s Food Armor® program.
 
All dairy farmers and industry professionals interested in current trends driving policy changes are asked to attend this industry-leading meeting. Those who register can choose to attend one or both days of the meeting.  The PDPW Food & Policy Summit runs in partnership with the UW-School of Veterinary Medicine (UW-SVM) for up to 12.5 CE credits.

PDPW to Hold Food & Policy Summit
 
DAIRY NEWS – The Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) will be hosting the PDPW Food & Policy Summit on October 25-26, 2016 at the Sheraton Hotel, Madison, Wis. This cutting-edge event will bring together dairy farmers, processors, regulators and allied industry to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities facing today’s dairy operations.
              
The first day will be dedicated to the voices driving policy and will feature Keynote speaker Ben Brancel, the Wisconsin Secretary of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP). Secretary Brancel will share thoughts on the agriculture industry, policies affecting agriculture, consumer trends and potential for the future. Also on day one, a food panel representing Dean Foods, JBS USA, The Hershey Company and Grassland Dairy Products, Inc., will shed light on processors and food trends, while a consumer panel will highlight the driving factors behind consumer decision making. Closing day one of the Summit, Scott Beckstead, of The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), will address their organization’s current expectations for the dairy industry.
 
Day two of the Summit will offer solutions to issues facing the dairy industry. Topics of discussion will include the use of animal antibiotics, led by Brian Lubbers, DVM, PhD; an update on National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) policies; and will highlight changes in the Wisconsin DNR regulations. Participants will also choose from a series of breakout sessions to receive updates from various groups including Dairy Management, Inc., NMPF, the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association’s (WVMA) Food Armor® program.
